Issue Nine!!

Posted in Issue Nine with tags , on November 14, 2011 by mohawko

For the much-anticipated Issue Nine, we present a classical drama of towering proportions. Hear it in all its Latin glory on this week’s installment of “Centerpiece,” Monday at 4 PM EST (stream it here, using the Amarok # in iTunes, blahblah), or download it tonight for your permanent collection. Operating our story this week is the irrepressible metallite Graham Nissen. Glory be.

ISSUE NINE (11/14/11):

“Hic thalamum invasit natae vetitosque hymenaeos”

by Tucker Cummings

Operative: Graham Nissen (Richmond, IN)

About the author: Tucker Cummings channels all her creativity into her stories at margeryjones.com, which is why the name of her Twitter account (@TuckerCummings) and blog (TuckerCummings.com) are so goshdarn obvious.

The Eye of the Killer: Action Shots 3-5

The SPR explodes in color with three more glorious Action Shots from Issue Eight!

Look at the composition of this shot. JUST LOOK AT IT.

Fresh Produce (NYC)

Our operative Brian Hurley had this to say about his experience thus far:

A couple of times while wearing the story around, or wrangling through crowds for a better shot, I asked myself “Why am I doing this again? This thing that takes time and effort and doesn’t really benefit me at all?” And instantly a voice would say “Because this project is fucking awesome, that’s why. Awesome in a way that needs no reward or justification. It just needs to be.”

Right on, brother!

A Riot of Colors and Flavors

Awesomeness. And a third:

"Lost & Searching in America"

Stay tuned for Issue Nine, starting Monday, featuring a lot of classy gentlemen.

Occupational Hazards

As you should already know, Barry Basden’s wonderful story is currently making its way around the Big Apple on the back of the ferociously talented and extraordinarily handsome operative Brian Hurley, our first non-local operative. He’s spread the SPR love far and wide, and had others don the story for a night on the town. Thus, we are proud to present two new Action Shots, the likes of which I could never have imagined on that hot, sweaty night that the Safety Pin Review was conceived.

Check out this first one from Occupy Wall Street:

This second photo is an expanded version of the profile shot. It’s terrifically cinematic.

I think my fingertips are about to explode from excitement.

More to come.

Well, well. Things are certainly heating up. Straight from the heart of Times Square, we are proud to present Issue Eight, which is being worn this week by Brian Hurley & Company around New York City. Stream the radio show live Monday at 4 PM EST from here (use Amarok # in iTunes, etc.), or download it here later tonight. Ballin’. Here goes:

“Doug Paul Case Does Not Condone Sexual Violence”: Action Shots 1-4

Posted in Action Photos!, Issue Seven with tags , , on November 4, 2011 by mohawko

Well, hello there. Welcome to the first batch of Issue Seven Action Photos. This picture was taken by metallic wonder G. Nissen, who will soon be boasting an SPR story on his back, one that would fit quite perfectly among those hanging there on the clothesline, as a matter of fact.

AASV

Following that, we have several Simon-strolling-across-campus shots that seem to have become our stock-in-trade, seeing as it’s what I do the most of.

CAN YOU WALK THE WALK

Strollin’!

IF YOU TALK THE TALK

On Sunday, “On My Spaceship” is going to see some live music (two bands featured on last week’s installment of “Centerpiece,” as a matter of fact). There will be photos.

And next week, Safety Pin Review goes to New York: Issue Eight will be worn around NYC by Operative (and author) Brian Hurley.

AND ROCK THE HAWK

In an interaction that must be credited entirely to online social media, I tweeted Margaret Atwood last night (because she rocks my socks), something about “wearable fiction” and how she should submit a story to us, and then this morning, she retweeted my post to her approximately 270K followers. Since then, website traffic hit its highest daily sum since the debut issue featuring xTx dropped back in September. Yowza! With bated breath, we now await stories from Sherman Alexie and Margaret Atwood both. Sights high. Maybe this will pressure them.

And, thanks to a generous donation from one of our contributors, the Safety Pin Review is now proudly hosted at safetypinreview.com. We certainly do appreciate it. Mad props.
